FLO Jo

1959 - 1988

Los Angeles, California

Track star, Olympian

Florence Griffith Joyner is the fastest woman of all time.

The records she set at the '88 Seoul Olympics still stand, cementing her as a legend.

Flo Jo grew up in Los Angeles and started running track at a young age. She ran through high school, even winning the Jesse Owens National Youth Games, but she quit during college to support her family. However, her coach found a way to get her on UCLA's team.

While she's most famous for snatching the gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 in Seoul, her status as a fashion icon is equally legendary. Flo Jo worked as a nail tech and hairstylist while training for the '88 Olympics and went from designing her uniforms to creating "The Flo-Jo's" for the Pacers. Her "one-legger" is the most famous set she's rocked, while her long acrylic nails and gold jewelry were also staples on the track.
