Gloria Richardson's claim to fame is her unwavering stare in the "Soldiers with Bayonets" photo. But her impact is much more than that captured moment.
She served as the Leader of the Cambridge Nonviolent Action Committee (the adult affiliate of SNCC) and was a signer of the Treaty of Cambridge, which involved negotiations with Robert F. Kennedy. Despite her work in nonviolent spaces, Richardson adopted an assertive approach for protests she led, often questioning the impact of pacifist tactics.
