Monica Wright is a character in Gina Prince-Bythewood's 2000 hit movie Love & Basketball. Monica and her family, played by Sanaa Lathan, become next-door neighbors with a professional basketball player and his family.

Monica, as we learn almost immediately, is remarkable at basketball. She plays a quick game against the son, Quincy, and his friends, claiming she will be the first girl in the NBA.

As the movie progresses, we see Monica and Quincy go from neighbors to lovers to distant strangers and back again. The film's signature scene, "I'll play you," "For what?" "Your heart" had everyone thinking they were actual ballers 😂.
